- Be over 18 years of age
- Have your own transport
- Have some relevant childcare experience
- Have a current enhanced CRB disclosure or be willing to apply for one (see CRB information)
- Be flexible and friendly
If you are interested in registering with us please complete and submit the online application form and read through the following information.
Once your application form has been processed you will be telephoned and invited into the office for a face to face interview.
For the purpose of your interview we would like you to bring with you:
- 2 written references. These can be from previous employers or character references and the supplier will be contacted by Home Organisers in due course
- 2 forms of identification - one being your passport and the other showing proof of address (driving licence or utility bill)
- Any relevant certificates you hold such as - registration as a childminder, NNEB's, first aid, criminal bureau records disclosure etc.
- If you do not hold a current enhanced Criminal Records Bureau disclosure, please read the following paragraph
Criminal Records Bureau Disclosure
At present there is not a national register for babysitters. However, Home Organisers recognises the importance of employing new babysitters who have demonstrated their suitability by supplying proof of or completing an enhanced CRB check. If you hold a current enhanced CRB certificate we are happy to accept copies from your previous/present employer. Alternatively we offer a service through the criminal records bureau to obtain disclosures for our candidates for a fee of £48 payable by the applicant. This check can be initiated on line at the time of your interview, but will require you to provide the appropriate payment and to have with you a valid passport, driving licence and one other document proving address i.e) utility bill. It usually takes 10-14 days from application for CRB for the full enhanced disclosure document to arrive. The certificate will then become your property and be available for use in other forms of employment.
What happens next?
Once you have been interviewed, your references contacted with a satisfactory result and your CRB disclosure has been verified/obtained you will be able to start working for Home Organisers. Home Organisers operates as an introduction agency for child carers and families. Families will contact Home Organisers with the dates that they require a daytime or evening babysitter. Likewise Babysitters are encouraged to email in their availability for work for the weeks ahead. Home Organisers will then match the request with the availability and offer the booking to a registered babysitter in the local area. You are under no obligation to accept the booking, however we do ask that you honour any bookings that you have accepted. There is no guarantee of hours of work with Home Organisers. We would expect to offer you several bookings per month, but during quiet periods this may not always be possible. Families will supply an approximate finishing time for the sit, but due to the nature of babysitting some flexibility may be required. Each sit is for a minimum of 3 hours in duration, even if you finish before this. You will be paid the appropriate hourly rate (see rates of pay) which will be rounded up to the nearest quarter of an hour. You will be paid in cash by the family on the evening of the babysit. Home Organisers will not take a percentage of your earnings and do not require a membership or registration fee from our babysitters. We do, however ask that you do not pass any of your personal details on to families that we have introduced you to and that you do not accept babysits direct from families.
