Finding the Right Full-Time Nanny for Your Family

Posted on Wednesday, August 13, 2025 by Debbie BarrettNo comments How to choose the right full time nanny

Why the Right Nanny Changes Everything

We know how much difference the right nanny can make, not just to your children, but to the whole rhythm of your home.

Picture the morning: the baby is content after breakfast, your toddler is happily stacking blocks, and the older children are calmly gathering their things for the day ahead. The house feels peaceful, everything is in hand, and you can start your day without rushing.

That's the kind of harmony the right nanny brings.

Why so many families choose a full-time nanny

  • Care that's consistent and centred on your children's needs and tailored to each child.
  • Less daily stress for you as school runs, meal prep, activities and homework are all handled
  • Someone who understands your family values and works in tune with them
  • Complete discretion and professionalism at all times

Real-life examples of successful placements

Weybridge - baby & toddler We placed a gentle, confident daily nanny for a family with a 10-month-old and a 3-year-old. Mornings start with breakfast and the nursery drop-off, followed by sensory play and walks with the baby. In the afternoons, she brings the siblings together for shared play, dinner and bedtime so evenings stay calm.

Kensington - pre-schooler & school-age child This family wanted a nanny who could keep everything running smoothly between nursery and school. She keeps uniforms and kits ready, organises activities, and has meals on the table, so evenings are relaxed and unhurried.

Kent - toddler & older children A busy professional couple with a 3-year-old, 7-year-old and 9-year-old needed a nanny who could meet very different needs. She uses Montessori-inspired learning for the youngest and supports the older two with homework, sports and growing independence.

Wimbledon - teenagers with multiple tutors This family's teenagers had a packed week of tutoring, sport and music. We found them a nanny who keeps every timetable, kit and resource organised, and works closely with tutors to make sure nothing is missed.

What full-time means in 2026

Most daily (live-out) full time nannies work 50 to 60 hours a week, usually 7am to 7pm or 8am to 6pm so they fit in with working parents' schedules.

Live-in nannies generally work around 60 hours a week over five days, and often include one or two nights of babysitting.

Duties, shaped to your family

Babies & toddlers - Feeding, naps, sensory play, developmental activities, and gentle outdoor time.

Pre-school & primary - School or nursery runs, nutritious meals, encouraging independence, and supporting learning through play or structured activities.

Older children & teenagers - Homework supervision, sports and activity schedules, and coordination with tutors.

Across all ages, a nanny may also handle child-related laundry, organise play spaces, and liaise with other household staff.

If you also need wider household help, we can design a blended role so everyone is clear on what's expected.

Pay in 2026 - what to expect

From the Nannytax Salary Guide:

  • City of London daily nanny - about £19.51 per hour gross (£50,726 a year for 50 hours)
  • Greater London daily nanny - about £17.86 per hour gross (£46,436 a year)
  • Home Counties daily nanny - about £17.86 per hour gross (£46,436 a year)
  • Rest of UK daily nanny - about £15.77 per hour gross (£41,002 a year)

Rates may be higher for highly experienced or highly qualified nannies, for roles involving multiple children, specialist skills such as newborn care or special educational needs, extended hours, proxy parenting or regular travel.

Getting it right from the start

The best placements start with a clear understanding of your children's personalities, daily routines and the way you parent.

For some families, that means a nanny who embraces a gentle, nurturing style. For others, it's someone who encourages structure, academic focus, or active outdoor lifestyles.

Whatever your priorities, we'll help define the role so it attracts the right calibre of professional and supports a lasting match.

A Recent Success:

By the time the parent returned to work, the baby was thriving and the home was running smoothly.
